Long Arm Quilting Services

It is an honour when you choose me to quilt your quilts for you. I treat each quilt with respect. They will be quilted in a smoke free, pet free home. The thread and designs chosen will be those that best suit your quilt. You can be consulted on the process or leave it up to me, either way my goal is to give you back a product that makes you happy.

Prepping your Quilt TOP

Congratulations! You’ve done the hard part, choosing the fabrics, all that cutting and piecing and pressing and planning! Now it’s time to sit back and start your next project while you wait for this quilt to get back home to you.

Here’s a pro-tip: If you cut and prepare your binding now you can tidy up that whole project and have that binding waiting for your quilt.

Press your top, take this time to snip those lose threads and check for any seams that may have holes.

Measure your top both Height and Width.

Is it directional? Mark the top centre with a safety pin and a note.

Preparing your Quilt BACKING

Fabric is coming in all types of widths so you have lots of options out there at your Local Quilt Store. IF purchasing a wide back—I always purchase a bit extra as it is really hard for the shops to keep it straight.

Your backing needs to be 8” larger than your top-or four inches bigger on all four sides.

If you are piecing your back—try to use a 1/2” seam pressed open. It really should be horizontal to your quilt.

I will quilt minkie, fireside, flannel and of course cotton. No bed sheets—not all 100% cotton is created equal. With fabrics other than cotton or flannel it will work best if your fabric is wide enough without piecing—those seams can get really thick.

Measure to make sure you have enough. If you want it directional be sure to mark the top centre with a safety pin and a note.

Now What?

Batting: can be purchased from me at competitive rates, or you can bring your own quality batting. I carry Hobbs, Warm & Natural and Pellon—it sometimes depends on the supply chain just what is in stock at the time. They are all a quality 80/20. If supplying your own batting it needs to be the same size as the quilt.

Thread: I will supply the thread. Superior Thread is my first choice but I also have Wonderfil and Glide available. I will choose the colour and style best suited to your quilt.

Quilt Design: You design will be an all over edge to edge. I can choose the one I think best or consult with you and send you a couple of options to choose from.

I am going to ask you to tell me a bit about your quilt as that might help me choose a design. For instance if your quilt is for an aunt who loves gardening that pattern could be very different than a quilt for your nephew who is gradating highschooler. I always attempt to match the design to the quilt AND the purpose or the quilt.
